Metatarsalgia
|
Metatarsalgia is a condition
that describes pain and inflammation in the
ball of the foot. Pain is often located
under the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsal heads.
Pain usually occurs with weight bearing, particularly when pushing off or when wearing high-heeled footwear. The metatarsophalangeal joints
(MPJ) may also be swollen and have painful
limited range of motion. The condition may
be caused by arthritis, pinched nerve,
overuse, obesity and other gait
abnormalities. Treatment is based on
removing pressure under the ball of the foot
and reducing pain and swelling.
