A "high" ankle sprain is an injury to the ligaments between the two major bones of the lower leg (Tibia and Fibula) at the level of the ankle.

This ligament is called the anterior tibiofibular ligament. The injury usually is caused by sudden "dorsiflexion" of the ankle (foot forced upwards towards your head).
