ACL Injuries
|
An anterior cruciate ligament,
or ACL, injury is a tear in one of the knee
ligaments that joins the upper leg bone with
the lower leg bone. It is usually caused by
hyperextension and twisting of the knee,
where the knee joint goes back more than 10
degrees beyond its normal fully straightened
position. It is a very common injury in
football, hockey, skiing, skating, soccer
and basketball, due to the enormous amount
of stress, weight, and torque the knee must
endure.
